Ashby 20 Run

On Sunday 14th of March a 20 mile race took place from Ashby Leisure Centre. This was achieved by covering two circuits going passed Springs Hydro onto Swepstone then Heather, Normanton le Heath and back through Packington before returning to Ashby. The race started at 10:10am with approximately 400 people taking part.

A group of us (Chris Jameson, James Southward, Jamie Donaghy and Mark Timson) helped out the Ashby 20 runners, by manning two water stations, at Swepstone and Heather. On arriving at Swepstone we set out the cups and waited for the runners while bearing the cold weather. It was 10:40 and we could see the first runner in our sights. Then we had great fun in handing out drinks to all of the competitors. After the runners had gone past we collected the hundreds of cups, from the grass verge. Then we waited for the runners to return on their second lap, now well spread out. After the last runner had gone past us, we returned to Ashby having had an exciting experience. a-20-4

We attended a very nice buffet at which the various awards were given out, speeches were made about the event, including thanks to 4th Ashby Scouts for their part.

This was a most enjoyable event – all you Scouts- don’t hesitate get involved next time.
