Volunteer with us - we need helpers for all age groups and to help run and manage the group.
As you may know, everyone in 4th Ashby is a volunteer. We’re all giving our time so as many children as possible can have access to scouting but we need more helpers please. Can you volunteer with us? We need helpers for all age groups and to help run and manage the group.
There are lots of ways to volunteer to help, from Section Leaders and Section Helpers to Occasional Helpers who support meetings and activities on a flexible basis and Parent Supporters who can only help out occasionally or with specific duties.
There are also Group Trustees and the Group Management Team, who help with the management of the Scout Group by taking on roles such as Facilities Support, Equipment Manager as well as more formal roles like Treasurer or Chair.
Why get involved?
Scouting is great fun for all involved, by becoming an adult volunteer you can:
-
Give your children a great Scouting experience and spend some quality time with them
-
We’re a friendly bunch, so it’s a great way to make friends and meet people
-
Try new things and challenge yourself
-
Get outdoors and get stuck in
-
Positively impact your community
-
Create vital opportunities for young people
-
Make memories that'll last a lifetime
-
Volunteering looks great on your CV
-
Last but not least: We need you! Without more volunteers the group is at risk of being unable to run meetings.
Ways you can help:
Flexible Adult Volunteering – Beaver, Cub and Scout Teams
Scouts are changing the way in which people can help, with flexibility as a first priority. Everyone has busy lives and the more helpers we get, the more fun it can be. If you can only occasionally help, that’s OK. Whether you’d like to be an activity planner, tea-maker or craft creator, we appreciate any time you can spare.
I like the idea of helping but I’m worried that I won’t know what to do.
Don’t worry, everyone started somewhere. We’ll make sure you’ve got all the training you need to safely help, in a way that can fit into your life. Our support structures mean no-one will be left with too much responsibility or workload and we can help train you to help in any way that fits into your life.
Occasional parent helper at meetings
Our
Online Scout Manager system will shows clear information about what we will be doing through the term, and the adult helpers needed for each session.
We will also be sending out a Programme Calendar at the end of each term showing the activities we have planned for the next term, to make helping out easier to plan into everyone’s busy lives. To sign up to help at a meeting, simply log in to Online Scout Manager, click on “Programme” on the left menu, scroll down to the meeting you would like to help with and click the “I can help” button.
If there is no option to click that button but the meeting is something that you are particularly skilled in or interested in, please do get in touch as there is always room for more helpers.
On the night, when you arrive, please come and say “Hi” to the leaders and let us know that you’re here to help. One of our friendly leaders will let you know what you will be helping with and give any instructions and safety advice.
Contact us to learn more about being an occasional helper or check
OSM for information about sessions where we need help.
Join our Trustee Board
The Trustee Board is a team of volunteers who work together to make sure Scouts is run safely and legally and basically help our Scouting volunteers deliver fantastic programmes that give young people skills for life.
The Trustee Board meets roughly monthly, with a few additional hours needed each week to do allocated tasks. The more volunteers we have, the less work there is for everyone to do.
Trustee roles currently available:
-
Assistant Treasurer
-
Trustee
If you would like to apply for a Trustee role, please email
nikki.davies@4thAshby.org.uk. We are always very happy to hear from anyone interested in joining our Trustee Board, especially if you have any Treasurer or Chair experience.
Join our Group Management Team
We would also like to build our Group Management Team. This is a team of volunteers who support our Trustees and help with the day to day running of the Group, helping with the facilities, maintenance, equipment, fundraising and grants, events, administration and communication. There are no specific time commitments with these roles and they are entirely flexible to your availability. We appreciate any support we can get and it would be great to get a pool of people we can call on if we need them.
Right now, we need people to help with admin and communications, social media and parent communications, building improvement, funding and fundraising and to support events. We also need a few parents to help us develop a second-hand uniform store and an equipment borrowing library to ensure everyone has the uniform and equipement they need, whatever their financial circumstances.
Occasional Specialist Help
From time to time, we need help from people with specialist skills such as decorators, plumbers, builders, roofers, electricians, tilers, as well as property solicitors, risk assessors and grant fund specialists.
If you think you can help in any way, even just for a short while or a one off task, please email our Trustee team at
nikki.davies@4thAshby.org.uk
All our helpers started somewhere with very little knowledge, don’t worry, we’ll be there to help you at every step. We hope you’ll love being part of the team and might even want to help again!
And finally, please help us with funding to ensure we can offer the best programme and facilities.
